Agalychnis lemur

Agalychnis lemur, Lemur Leaf Frog (Boulenger 1882)

This beautiful little leaf frog is considered to be critically endangered. Agalychnis lemur is easily distinguished from all other Costa Rican phyllomedusines by lacking inter-digital webbing on the hands and feet. The typical snout-vent length is 30-45 mm. Its historical distribution stretched along the Atlantic slo…pes and highlands from the area of the Tilaran mountain range, through the rest of Costa Rica and into Panama, nearing the Colombian border.

In 2003, the Costa Rican Amphibian Research Center started an in situ conservation project with this species in our private reserve. This pioneering effort has proven to very successful in augmenting the population within the reserve.
